International Fair

During the next 7 weeks, each class will learn about a different country. They will do research in computer class, play some international games in gym, do a special art project with Ms. Bolick, learn a song from a foreign country in music, and hear fables and stories in library.

This is just the beginning! On March 1st the children will take their passports and travel through 24 countries. The following day, March 2, 2012 will be an assembly involving professional dancers, musicians and international cuisine. The students of St. Gabriel will have all of their senses exposed to this wonderful world right in our cafeteria!

Share your Family’s Ethnic History!

In anticipation of the St. Gabriel International Fair on Thursday, March 1st and Friday, 2nd, we are asking our St. Gabriel community to share a piece of their ethnic background! Our responses will be displayed in the school the week prior to the fair, so that we can learn more about one another’s ethnic backgrounds and travel around the World at St. Gabriel School!

Tell the St. Gabriel community something about your family's ethnic background  or how your family celebrates your ties to your country of origin. You may submit any bit of history that you like. Please return the form via backpack mail to the front office by ASAP.

For example:
How did your ancestors come to the United States? Share the story!
What languages are spoken in your home or with grandparents?
What holiday traditions do you do that have ethnic ties? (For example, Easter or Christmas)
What Catholic traditions does your family follow that originated from your nation of origin?
What patron Saints are popular in your family’s country of origin?
Do you have special recipes or foods that your family enjoys from your native country?
Or tell us about a recent trip you have taken to your family’s country of origin.
Please write clearly, so that all may read and learn!
Attach a picture if possible! (of your family, of your native country, or something that represents your country)
What a great chance for us to learn more about one another here at St. Gabriel School! This is a fun opportunity to talk about your family’s history with your children. Look for the Around the World at St. Gabriel School project the week of International Fair!

Other exciting activities for International Fair:

*St. Gabriel Cookbook - Pull out that famous family recipe to share with your St. Gabriel family. Submit your recipe on our template and email it by February 2nd.

*"I Spy Mrs. Broxterman" Contest - For the next 7 weeks Mrs. Broxterman will travel to 7 different places. Students will get 3 clues to figure out what country/city she is going to. They can fill out the answer sheet and submit their answer outside the cafeteria. The weekly winner will earn a prize.

Girls on the Run

Girls on the Run (GOTR) inspires girls to be joyful, healthy and confident using a fun, experience-based curriculum which creatively integrates running. Through interactive activities such as running, playing games, and discussing important issues, participants learn how to celebrate being girls. GOTR program focuses on building self-esteem and improving emotional and physical health. During the 10-week program, girls are empowered with a greater self-awareness, a sense of achievement and a foundation in team building to help them become strong, contented and self-confident young women.

Each session is led by trained coaches that guide and mentor girls through a fun and uplifting curriculum. Coaches teach specific life lessons such as dealing with body image and the media, resisting peer-pressure, making healthy decisions, and contributing to the community. Along the way, the girls train together to walk or run in a 5k (3.1 mile) event which concludes the each season.

Your coaches for the Spring season will be Tara Fitzgerald and Stephanie Chadwick. Both chair the program at St. Gabriel and have been coaching for several seasons.
  • GOTR is for girls in 3rd-5th Grade.
  • Every Tuesday and Thursday from 3:00 – 4:00 pm, beginning February 21 and running through May 12.
  • Ending with a 5K Run!

Online registration for St. Gabriel begins on February 2 at 8pm
, $160.00 per participant, financial aid available. *Please note that there are only 15 slots available and spaces fill up quickly.
